How to Prevent Your Steelmade Flat Top from Sliding on a Glass CooktopUpdated 23 days ago

If your Steelmade Flat Top is shifting while cooking on your glass top stove, you’re not alone! This can happen due to the smooth surface of the glass cooktop and the movement of food while cooking. The good news is that there’s a simple and effective solution: using high-heat silicone beneath the included Steelmade spacers.

Why Does the Flat Top Slide?

The primary reasons for movement are:

  • The glass cooktop is a low-friction surface, making it easier for the Flat Top to shift.
  • The included Steelmade spacers are designed to protect the glass cooktop, but they may not grip as well on ultra-smooth surfaces.
  • Heat expansion and cooking movement can cause slight shifts.

Solution: High-Heat Silicone Under the Steelmade Spacers

To keep your Flat Top securely in place, we recommend using a thin layer of high-heat silicone under the Steelmade spacers. This provides:
✅ Better grip on smooth surfaces like glass cooktops
✅ Heat resistance, preventing melting or degradation
A secure hold for the Steelmade spacers, preventing them from shifting

How to Set Up Your Spacers with Silicone for Maximum Grip

  1. Clean the cooktop surface – Ensure there’s no grease or residue that could reduce grip.
  2. Apply a small amount of high-heat silicone directly to the bottom of each Steelmade spacer. A thin bead is enough—too much can cause uneven placement.
  3. Allow the silicone to partially cure – Let it sit for a few minutes until tacky but not fully set.
  4. Position the Steelmade spacers as usual and press them gently into place.
  5. Set the Flat Top on top and test stability – It should now stay in place even when pushing food around.

These high-heat silicone adhesives can be found online or at home improvement stores. Look for ones rated for at least 500°F (260°C) to ensure durability.

Additional Tips to Prevent Sliding

  • Ensure the cooktop is completely dry before placing the Flat Top.
  • Check for worn-out spacers and replace them if they lose their grip.
  • Avoid excessive force when cooking, which can still cause movement even with improved grip.

By securing the Steelmade spacers with high-heat silicone, you’ll get the best of both worlds—protection for your cooktop and a stable cooking surface for your Flat Top.
